how to become a MODEL
Have ideas about becoming a professional model? Many young women want to be models because it's glamorous and sexy. The truth is, many more models don't make than do. Being a model is grueling and takes a lot of hard work. Even with the hard work, modeling doesn't mean you'll make it. We've put together some realistic advice to help you make it happen.
First you'll need to realize that there are certain qualities that every model needs to have. Depending on the type of model you want to become, you will need to be in generally good health. Clear skin, healthy hair and attractive features are a must. Other qualities such as height and weight will play a role in your career depending on what type of modeling you pursue. There are several exercise programs designed for models that help build your body for modeling.
You'll also need to decide what kind of model you want to be. Anyone who wants to be a model can do it, but unless you possess the basic requirements, you will find that there is very little work available to you. If you don't look like the runway models you see on television and in print, you might want to try different types of modeling.
If you're a tall person, very thin, with small breasts, you might want to consider pursuing a career as a catwalk model. If you’re more full-figured and curvy, you might be a good candidate for plus size modeling. If you have large breasts but don't have wide hips, you might look for work as an underwear model. If you don't fit any of the typical model body or face descriptions, you might want to consider auditioning for foot, hand, or hair modeling.
Plan on getting photos done. Your first photos do not need to be professionally done but they should be made for the purpose of showing your ability as a model. Most agencies don't mind snapshots, but they will want the snapshots to be focused and serious. At a minimum, you should have one very nice headshot and one very nice body shot. Take a lot of photos and decide on our favorites. Next you'll need to get prints of the photos. You'll need carry 8x10 photos in case you're asked to leave one at an audition or interview. These will be fine until you are able to get professional photos done. Save these photos and don't try to give them away or distribute them. Remember, these are not professional photos and you'll probably do much better once you have professional photos done.
Another good idea is to look up a reputable modeling agency. You can find reputable modeling agencies by searching the internet. You can also usually find them in your local phonebook. Either way, it's a good idea to research the agency you choose just to be on the safe side. When you go to your appointment with the modeling agency it's important to be prepared. You might be asked to show different facial expressions and should be prepared. Practice different faces at home in the mirror so that if you are asked to perform, you will be comfortable and ready.
Lastly, be prepared to accept rejection and criticism. It is important that you accept rejection and criticism politely. Be professional and polite and, of course, be timely. All these tips along with your passion for modeling and you commitment to succeeding should ensure that you have a positive modeling experience and possibly a great modeling career.
